Sean Patrick Maher
An American Hero

The Sean P. Maher Foundation was established to honor the memory, recognize the sacrifice and celebrate the life of a true American Hero. Marine Lance Corporal Sean P. Maher was just 19 years old when he gave his life in service to our nation and freedom world wide in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sean was a much loved, highly regarded and respected Marine with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. Sean was killed in action on February 2, 2005 in Al Anbar province, Iraq, when his unit came under hostile fire near Fallujah.

Sean enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 2003 just months after graduating from Warren Township High School. Sean wanted to serve his country and make a difference in Iraq not only to advance the cause of freedom but to help people understand that while differences separate us culturally, religiously and politically, we are all the same at heart.

It was Sean’s dream to return from Iraq and go to college. He was just days from coming home when he was killed.

As you make your way through the words, pictures and memories on this web site, you will not only learn more about this extraordinary young man but will come to fully appreciate his dedication to having a positive impact on the lives of those he touched. While he is not hear to see it, it is clear that Sean did more to advance the cause of helping people in his short 19 years on this earth than most will do in a lifetime.

Family, friends and fellow Marines will tell you that Sean can be summed up in one word; heart. It is in the spirit of that heart and commitment to others that this foundation is establishing a scholarship fund for Warren Township High School.

Sean excelled at sports – especially football – in high school. He was not the biggest or best athlete but everyone recognized early on that his game was driven to another level by his heart and approach to the game. If there was ever an athlete who “left it all on the field” every play, every game, it was Sean.

The foundation will recognize a student athlete from Warren Township High School each year who exhibits the same dedication, commitment and heart with a scholarship to be used to continue education beyond graduation.

The foundation will be holding fundraisers and will auction items on this site to raise money for the scholarship. We invite you to donate, bid on an item, or offer a business sponsorship to help back this wonderful cause and to keep Sean’s spirit of giving to others and giving it all for decades to come.

Thank you for visiting. Please sign the guestbook and always keep Sean and what he stood for forever in your hearts.
